Hard hats and safety goggles for everyone.
Massive tip trucks with wheels as high as a bus.
A whole mountain removed and replaced with a massive hole with highly acidic water in the bottom....ultimate plan is to make it into a fresh water lake.
Very high grade iron ore...crushed and then loaded automatically into train carriages....the trains are 2 and a half km long....loaded as it moves forward at 1.5km per hour....when loaded it is automated to take itself 500km to the port to set sail for China....amazing, ugly, very few people to be seen....must all be in control rooms.
Tennis on brand new courts....just opened yesterday....we were the first guests to use the courts...we were the only ones there.

    A whoppa hole.

    Judy & I walked up to the top from camp ground late one evening & peered down.(2009).

Another 500km across mostly treeless plains today. We are using our drums of diesel careful to avoid the highest prices across the Nullarbor...up to $2.22 a litre. We know when a Roadhouse is approaching as we can see the communications tower from 5 km away....nice to have some reception for a short time. Each Roadhouse has a golf hole....no real fairway but fancy artificial grass for the greens. Stopped at Yalata an Aboriginal Community....they are part of the tribe moved from the Maralinga Region to allow the bomb testing to go ahead...they are now spread over a wide area. The community itself is closed due to Covid risk. The caravan park has only been open for 5 months with brand new facilities and a very cherpy chatty manager.

Jerramungup

We have stopped half way to Albany. It has been a very very windy day...hot wind to begin with. We stopped at Ravensthorpe for lunch and it sounded like the roof was going to blow off! Silo art of local banksias....many of which were growing in the main Street. As we drove further it began to pour with rain and it got very cold.....decided to call it a day at Jerramungup.......everything is something up here.

Cowell

Drove 100km down the coast....crops growing...the first we have seen since the wheat fields of WA. Cowell is a small town with several nice old buildings...100 yrs +....this used to be a busy port....now a sleepy small town  Walked out along the jetty and through the mangroves. No social distancing here! It is very cold....we have got out all of our jumpers, jackets, gloves and hats!
