Joffre Gorge

Horray!!! All the gorges are open today.
Decided to discover Joffre Gorge first. Dirt roads to get there , corrugated but generally in good condition.
Lookout at the top showed us a beautiful Ampitheatre with a waterfall at the head and big swimming hole at the bottom...sparkling in the sun.
On the opposite side of the gorge we could see kids jumping and hopping down the rockface where the path rating changed from grade 4 to grade 5......not a problem..... obviously very conservative ratings.
We skipped and jumped down the first section then came to the grade 5 bit...OMG we slithered on our bellies and our bottoms....hung on to rock ledges with our fingertips and wished our legs were a metre longer.
BUT....we made it to the bottom.
The swim was fantastic, the water was deep and clean but not too cold.
Lunch, then up we went, up the cliff face....no problem!!..much easier than down.
Had a lookout at Knox Gorge...no waterfall and very deep.
Back to Kallamina Gorge....very gentle...again a waterfall with a big pool at the bottom....we had it to ourselves.....another lovely swim.
What a great day!

Another 500km across mostly treeless plains today. We are using our drums of diesel careful to avoid the highest prices across the Nullarbor...up to $2.22 a litre. We know when a Roadhouse is approaching as we can see the communications tower from 5 km away....nice to have some reception for a short time. Each Roadhouse has a golf hole....no real fairway but fancy artificial grass for the greens. Stopped at Yalata an Aboriginal Community....they are part of the tribe moved from the Maralinga Region to allow the bomb testing to go ahead...they are now spread over a wide area. The community itself is closed due to Covid risk. The caravan park has only been open for 5 months with brand new facilities and a very cherpy chatty manager.

Jerramungup

We have stopped half way to Albany. It has been a very very windy day...hot wind to begin with. We stopped at Ravensthorpe for lunch and it sounded like the roof was going to blow off! Silo art of local banksias....many of which were growing in the main Street. As we drove further it began to pour with rain and it got very cold.....decided to call it a day at Jerramungup.......everything is something up here.

Cowell

Drove 100km down the coast....crops growing...the first we have seen since the wheat fields of WA. Cowell is a small town with several nice old buildings...100 yrs +....this used to be a busy port....now a sleepy small town  Walked out along the jetty and through the mangroves. No social distancing here! It is very cold....we have got out all of our jumpers, jackets, gloves and hats!
