Lake Argyle

Very early start this morning to make sure we got a site at Lake Argyle...they take no bookings and we all had to que up and hope enough people leave.
We were lucky!
Walked down to Lake Argyle where we were able to swim....the water was warm and deep and a pontoon provided in the water.....preferable to the very stylish infinity pool overlooking the lake but very cold and jam packed full of people.

Visited the Argyle homestead built by the Durack family.....originally in the valley flooded to create the lake but moved stone by stone to be recreated on high ground. An amazing story of resilient people ....currently listening to Kings in Grass Castles as an audio book.
Watched the setting sun on the mountain side opposite...... sitting on the lawn with a very amusing singer entertaining us all as we drank our wine and nibbled our snacks.
OMG we should have done this years ago!!!!

Another 500km across mostly treeless plains today. We are using our drums of diesel careful to avoid the highest prices across the Nullarbor...up to $2.22 a litre. We know when a Roadhouse is approaching as we can see the communications tower from 5 km away....nice to have some reception for a short time. Each Roadhouse has a golf hole....no real fairway but fancy artificial grass for the greens. Stopped at Yalata an Aboriginal Community....they are part of the tribe moved from the Maralinga Region to allow the bomb testing to go ahead...they are now spread over a wide area. The community itself is closed due to Covid risk. The caravan park has only been open for 5 months with brand new facilities and a very cherpy chatty manager.

Jerramungup

We have stopped half way to Albany. It has been a very very windy day...hot wind to begin with. We stopped at Ravensthorpe for lunch and it sounded like the roof was going to blow off! Silo art of local banksias....many of which were growing in the main Street. As we drove further it began to pour with rain and it got very cold.....decided to call it a day at Jerramungup.......everything is something up here.

Cowell

Drove 100km down the coast....crops growing...the first we have seen since the wheat fields of WA. Cowell is a small town with several nice old buildings...100 yrs +....this used to be a busy port....now a sleepy small town  Walked out along the jetty and through the mangroves. No social distancing here! It is very cold....we have got out all of our jumpers, jackets, gloves and hats!
