Nullarbor part 1

A big day of driving today.
We left Ceduna early and had a good talking book to occupy us.
Stopped at every Roadhouse to stretch our legs....we have worked out our petrol stops to avoid the most expensive spots.
We noticed lots of dead wombats on the road... apparently they are in plague proportions....50 to 60 in each burrow.....paddocks are full of them.
We have all our remaining apples and avocados to the staff at the Nullarbor Roadhouse....we were in a no man's land....people heading East have to hand in fruit and veg at Ceduna and those heading West have to hand everything in at the border.
No issues at the border, the police were happy with our G2G passes and checked our credit card statement to ensure we had spent the last 14 days in SA.
Quarantine man searched all the draws, cupboards and storage areas in the caravan.......we had forgotten the potatoes.....so handed them over.
Off we went....went a further 200km and found a nice free camp off the road....no traffic notice, no other people either.....great camp spot.

Mimbi caves

IGA at Fitzroy Crossing quite well supplied with fresh goods.....$16.50 for a punnet of blueberries, $8.50 for one of strawberries. Strong police presence ...patrolling the camp ground and parked in the car park of IGA. Everything and everyone seemed peaceful. Short drive today to Mimbi caves were we joined a tour by a local Aboriginal custodian. The caravan park nearby is new and nicely maintained....no power or water....lots of open space.... Double booking of our campsite....fortunately there were plenty of sites available.......dingos looking very healthy in the grass. Extensive cave system with water in pools...some parts very dark and tunnels through the rock made by water.....in the wet the caves fill completely....debris near the roof of the biggest cavern. It is the same Devonian rock laid down as a coral reef 35 million years ago that we have seen at Windjana and Geikie Gorges. Damper and tea after touring the caves . Wine and cheese with our neigh...

Into the storm

Today we have driven North to Geraldton. There have been hundreds of caravans and camper trailers passing us going South back to Perth....all heading away from cyclone Seroja. We if course we're heading straight into the storm. It is expected to cross the coast at Geraldton  Sunday night......so we have battened down and chosen a park a little away from the coast. We have also had someone check the caravan  batteries again....they have also said they are OK. An Auto electrician thinks our solar panels are inadequate....we are trying some extra fold out panels.....we will see. No photos today....all business.

Yalata

Another 500km across mostly treeless plains today. We are using our drums of diesel careful to avoid the highest prices across the Nullarbor...up to $2.22 a litre. We know when a Roadhouse is approaching as we can see the communications tower from 5 km away....nice to have some reception for a short time. Each Roadhouse has a golf hole....no real fairway but fancy artificial grass for the greens. Stopped at Yalata an Aboriginal Community....they are part of the tribe moved from the Maralinga Region to allow the bomb testing to go ahead...they are now spread over a wide area. The community itself is closed due to Covid risk. The caravan park has only been open for 5 months with brand new facilities and a very cherpy chatty manager.
